El Paso - Quintessentially Unique for Mozambique

There is certainly no other place that can compare to El Paso within the Mozambican borders. If you are looking for something totally different for a quick weekend breakaway or your next team building event El Paso is the place to go.

Situated on Macaneta Island only about 35 to 40km from Maputo you feel like you have been transported to a different era and different country. Its rustic and not for anyone that cant live without their mod cons and luxury, but if uniqueness is what you are looking for and you don't mind roughing it a bit, then I would 100% recommend it.

The town can accommodate up to 16 people in total and each unit has self catering facilities. However should you wish to make it a weekend of total relaxation and not cook any meals the Last Penny Saloon offers a wide variety of beverages to suit everyone's tastes and the meals are simple yet delicious.

There are various other lodges around the island which you can also visit should you wish to have a few extra options with menu selection and also some activities like deep sea fishing, island tours of Inhaca and scuba diving off Inhaca. The main activity at El Paso is aimed at lovers of horses and I must say the stables and the condition of the horses is very impressive. They are friendly and have been exceptionally trained so they cater for both beginners as well as seasoned riders.

It is very clear when you get to El Paso that their horses and some other fury friends (including about 6 dogs) is their passion. Also wonderful to listen to the story of how El Paso came about and it all started with a daughter who wanted a horse.

They are currently busy building a swimming pool and bird lovers could very well just go on a stroll around the bush and see what can be spotted as there are plenty of beautiful bird life around. Otherwise I recommend you to pack lots of books and maybe a pack of cards and hustle up some friends or other guests to join in a game of poker. If you really cant help yourself and stay away from the television for the weekend, they do have a small lounge with a flat screen TV, but personally myself and Dru saw no reason for spoiling a great weekend of nature and exploration.

So there you go, next time you are wondering what to do in Mozambique give El Paso a call, put on your riding boots and cowboy hat and your sure to be in for a treat.
